How to Fix Panel Communication Failure on the IQ Panel

Summary: A communication failure or "radio not responding" message on your panel indicates that your system is not communicating with the Alarm Response Center. This guide outlines potential causes and step-by-step solutions to restore communication. If issues persist, text our Support Representatives at 469.513.8685.

Common Causes and Solutions

1. Has Your Wi-Fi Name or Password Changed?

If you recently changed your Wi-Fi name or password, or replaced your router, you need to update your panel's Wi-Fi settings. Follow these steps.

2. Power Outage

  • Ensure your alarm system has power. After a prolonged outage, the system will restore communication once power is back.
  • If the panel battery is weak from a recent outage, allow up to 24 hours for it to recharge fully.

3. Loss of Connection to Power Source

  • Ensure the plug is securely connected to its outlet.
  • Verify the outlet is supplying power by testing it with another device.

4. 3G Cellular Service Expired

  • 3G cellular technology was phased out in 2022, which may cause communication errors. Learn more in our 3G LTE Update communication.
  • Text 469.513.8685 to coordinate an upgrade to a supported cellular module.
  • Note: Brinks Home can still receive signals via your home's Wi-Fi connection, ensuring continuous protection.

5. Local Cell Provider Outage

If cell service is interrupted in your area, ensure your panel is connected to Wi-Fi as a backup.

6. Signal Interference

  • Identify and reposition large metal objects or appliances near your panel that might cause radio frequency interference.
  • Place your panel near an exterior wall, above ground level, and away from basements or interior closets.

7. System Malfunction

If a malfunction causes communication failure, try a power cycle:

  1. Power down the panel and disconnect its module.
  2. Wait 2 minutes, then power the panel back up.
  3. Test the system to confirm communication restoration. Click here for test mode instructions.

8. Interruption to Landline Phone Service

  • Check for service outages in your area.
  • Ensure your phone line is connected to the system if you've switched providers.
  • Switch to cellular communication for better reliability and smart home features like remote arming, cameras, and more. Text 469.513.8685 to upgrade.
