What is Guard Response?

  • Some jurisdictions in the US and Canada have enforced ordinances requiring verification on alarms before responding in an attempt to reduce the number of false alarms received.
  • In some instances, the police will not respond until the alarm has been visually verified as an in-progress crime. Examples include verified audio, video, panic alarms, or eyewitness reports of illegal entry or attempted break-ins at homes.
  • Please note that this applies only to burglary alarms, and will not impact response to panic, medical, or fire alarms.
  • To address this, we have contracted with a third-party to provide on-call guard response service.

How does Guard Response Work?

  • Upon receiving a burglary alarm, we will first attempt to contact you and your Emergency Contacts for confirmation that emergency services are necessary. To review and update your Emergency Contacts, please login to the Customer Portal by clicking here or through your mobile app and navigate to the Account page.
  • If we receive confirmation that the alarm is active or if we are unable to reach your or your Emergency Contacts, we will request that the third party guard service respond and, if visible verification is made, the guard will request that the local police department dispatch emergency services.
