Select Your Panel That Needs a Replacement Battery
Before you replace the battery in your alarm panel, it's helpful to understand two key parts of your system:
Transformer
The transformer is a large plug connected to an electrical outlet—usually secured with a screw to prevent it from coming loose. This is your system's main power source.
As long as your home has power, your system should remain powered by the transformer.
If the transformer stops working or there's a power outage, your system will automatically switch to its backup battery.
Backup Battery
The backup battery provides temporary power when your system loses its main power source. How long it lasts depends on the battery's age and how many devices it supports.
You'll find the backup battery either:
- Inside the keypad (where you enter your code), or
- In a separate panel box, often located in a closet.
The location depends on the type of alarm system you have.
These batteries are rechargeable and will begin recharging automatically once power is restored.
Before replacing the battery, we recommend giving it 24 hours to recharge fully.
If your system still shows a panel low battery alert after 24 hours, then it's time for a replacement.
